THE QUEST FOR NEW WAVES

Travel the world in search of lost waves, as far as possible from civilization, and as close to nature as possible. The ultimate surf exploration, paradigm of our sport. Aurel Jacob, Ronan Gladu and Ewen Le Goff, the three members of the “Lost in the Swell” collective, are part of the very closed circle of the last surf explorers of the modern era. Like the pioneers of the 1970s, the trio of Breton surfers set out in search of pristine waves. Waves on which no man has ever left his wake. Like those that came before them, if they find such a destination, they keep their surf spots secret, inviting everyone to make their own trip in search of mythical waves. Unlike their 20th century predecessors, they document their adventures through films they share for free on YouTube.

Aurélien "Nono" Jacob is a Monitor-Teacher at the Brittany La Torche Surf School and a Lifeguard. This tireless adventurer does not let any mishap get the better of his infectious good humor. Within the team, he's always ready to come up with a good joke in hard times, or finds the words it takes to communicate with the locals. Ewen "W1w1" Le Goff teaches surfing, skateboarding and environmental awareness. As a fishing and marine exploration specialist, his beautiful catches allow the trio to enjoy gastronomic feasts on the most beautiful isolated beaches on the other side of the planet! Ronan "Ronus" Gladu is a Professional Director and a photographer in the nautical tourism and offshore racing circles. He captures the adventure through his lenses while bringing his very infectious laughter and quirky style to video.

“Our first adventure took us to the extreme. We had set ourselves the goal of spending 40 self-sufficient days on a deserted Indonesian island to live a simple life and surf at the same time.”

Survive to surf, that was the motto of this crazy challenge. "Despite the two hens, ten kilos of rice and 40 liters of water we took with us, after only 23 of the 40 days expected, we left the island, sick and worn out... It was a "disappointment." OXBOW allowed us to go on another adventure to the Solomon Islands. This time we embarked on the “Gwalaz”, an eco-designed trimaran.” The boat allowed them total navigational freedom, and they discovered breathtaking landscapes and waves during the trip. The adventure ended, but not their thirst for discovery; quite the contrary! In 2016, they got on “fat-bikes” to explore the waves and Gabonese nature. “Between elephants, crocodiles, hippos and sharks, this was surely the most extreme trip we had ever experienced. Next up, the Lost in the Swell group headed out to test a new means of transport, the donkey! Morocco was the destination, and they walked along the coast accompanied by four donkeys, which allowed them to transport all the equipment. “It was an epic journey, and the waves lived up to our expectations. The next adventures promise to be incredible and we can't wait to share them on our YouTube channel and Facebook page.” If something links the Lost in the Swells when they return to France, adventure is their leitmotif and the call of the unknown resonates as far as Brittany...
