THE LONGBOARD FAMILY IS GROWING

The longboard has always been a part of OXBOW’s DNA and today, we’re proud to announce our support for two longboarders from the Basque Country: Louis Marchiset and Simon Routa.

WELCOME LOUIS MARCHISET

A couple of months ago, our ambassador Ludo Dulou told us about a young French surfer who was lighting up the scene with his contagious good mood. After seeing our film ALBATROSS, Louis went to see Ludo in the water to introduce himself and ask him to take him to La Rhune. In light of their growing bond, Ludo lent him one of his guns so they could surf big waves together in the Basque Country. Because while Louis is just 18 years old and already a master on the longboard (French Youth Champion), he’s also a fan of smaller boards and all sizes of waves, as long as they surf. In love with the ocean and nature, and liable to ‘marvel at the beauty of a mountain at sunrise while other people of my age are coming home from the nightclub’, Louis humbly embodies all the values of the OXBOW brand. Although we’re not all that used to sponsoring ‘the youngsters’, we’re delighted to support him and to have him as part of the OXBOW team! No doubt there are many ocean adventures ahead of him with the elders. Welcome Louis!

WELCOME SIMON ROUTA

Simon credits his discovery of the longboard to a long year of rehabilitation following a serious injury. After this ordeal, surfing allowed him to discover himself as a person and today, he has built his life around this new-found passion into which he has invested his heart and soul. If you’re a regular surfer in the Basque Country, you’ve undoubtedly crossed paths with the bearded blond performing cross steps on the nose of his NAJE board. An adherent of the classic longboard, he is fascinated by ‘the idea of “style” in functionality, and not radicality, something which has always motivated me in my approach to surfing.’ Simon is a true fan of surf culture and particularly the 50s and 60s. This culture has endured thanks to icons who have left, and continue to leave on surf, their footprints. ‘Some of them are actually closely tied to OXBOW, since personalities like Bill Hamilton (father of Laird), Nat Young and Joël Tudor have influenced and still influence a whole community.’ Equally as humble as he is gifted on his board, we’re happy to welcome Simon to the team. Welcome Simon!
