Mathieu Crepel joins OXBOW and embodies the great return of the French brand in the Outdoor!

Since our creation in 1985, we have had the chance to sponsor some of the greatest athletes in the world and in Europe. Surfers, windsurfers, rowers, swimmers, skiers, riders, climbers...All united around the ideal of pure riding in the wilderness, the Oxbow People are the face of our brand. They share the same values, they help us to grow, to develop our products, they inspire us through their adventures. 

At a time when the word "lifestyle" is used by all fashion brands, we are proud to sponsor authentic sportsmen and women who have a real lifestyle inherent to their passion. With them, we create projects that we hope will inspire new generations of riders to have fun on the ocean and the mountains, while preserving their playgrounds. 



Today, we are happy to welcome snowboarding legend Mathieu Crepel to our family of ambassadors!

4 World Champion snowboard titles, 2 participations in the Olympic Games (Turin and Vancouver), a silver medal in the X-Games... Mathieu Crépel has been snowboarding since he was 10 years old, with the appeal of the performance and the adrenaline of victory as the driving forces of his career. Then the years go by. Mathieu grows up and realises that going to the same places, from hotel to hotel, and from resort to resort is ultimately rather simplistic, whereas travelling offers infinite possibilities of discovery, gives free rein to much more creativity and allows you to get a little closer to who you are...     

 

At the same time, this native of Tarbes, who settled in the Basque Country as a teenager, has always surfed. What started out as a simple passion, a way to recharge between snowboarding competitions, has become an inseparable part of his lifestyle. In constant search of new challenges, Mathieu never gives up. He dedicated two whole years to intensive training in order to surf Jaws in Hawaii, known as the most powerful wave in the world. He will make a film about it, "Shaka", to be acclaimed by the critics! 

 

Reconverted into a committed adventurer, the 37-year-old waterman alternates perfectly between snowboard and surfboard. He is a self-made man through his expeditions where he uses his fame to raise awareness of environmental issues among the younger generation, from the snowflake to the wave. Mathieu is a very active ambassador for the Water Family, of which he is the co-founder, and works with children to educate them about water conservation. Recently, he took on another major challenge, again with the aim of raising awareness of environmental issues among young people: participating in the Transat Jacques Vabre 2021 alongside sailor Stan Thuret. A great first for him!

 

For a long time, his quest was for medals, but now Mathieu Crépel is chasing meaningful adventures, dreaming of understanding and helping others to understand all the global issues through the protection of his favourite playgrounds: the mountains and the oceans.

Mathieu Crépel: “When I started snowboarding, the OXBOW brand was iconic! It made me dream, especially because it had this unique and offbeat vision of board and outdoor sports. The trips they organised with their riders, their lifestyle... They really embodied something different, they were visionary and inspirational in the way they did things. I am really happy to join OXBOW! This is the beginning of a great adventure that we will build together in a sustainable way. The brand has a great heritage and a lot of goodwill, which is quite fascinating and above all very motivating. Beyond the history of the brand and the messages it conveys, there are also the human values, the family spirit and the goodwill of the internal teams that attracted me. We often talk about timing in life, this opportunity came at the perfect time for me. The 37-year-old Mat Crépel is no longer the Mat Crépel who used to compete. Through this new collaboration, I am fortunate to be able to be at the heart of the relaunch of a very fine French brand, whose capital is French and private, to be involved in its development and to work hand in hand with internal teams who are fully committed to the protection of our playgrounds. Today, I need to work on projects that make sense, especially in relation to my commitment to the younger generation. The brand's eco-responsible approach, which it has made its priority, is fully aligned with my thinking, my commitments and the values I defend.”
