This winter, Natxo Gonzalez settled in Ireland with Mullaghmore Head in his sights. The December 23 session came after several days of tow-in, on a fairly standard forecast, with no real sign of anything special. Yet that day, the spot lined up like rarely before, cleaner, more perfect, unlike anything Natxo says he’s seen here in ten years. A first solid wave, a late drop, and a ride through a wall of whitewater, then back to the line-up alongside Nic von Rupp and Manea, a Tahitian bodyboarder. A set rolls in, no one rushing. Natxo turns, commits, and catches the wave of the winter — maybe the wave of his life.
FIRST SCREENING AT HOME IN BILBAO
Beyond the performance, this wave marks a milestone, coming after nearly two years away from the water due to an injury, as detailed by STAB Magazine (link available). It was shown for the first time at the Bilbao Surf Film Festival 2026 on March 20. The full session, along with an interview, will soon be available on YouTube.
