CAN AN ECO-BOARD SURVIVE THE WORLD'S HEAVIEST WAVES?
Portuguese surfer Miguel Blanco is on a mission – to help make surfing a more planet-friendly experience and live a sustainable lifestyle. These are the foundations for the 'Impact' series, which sees Miguel explore the inter-section of surfing and environmentalism, while having meaningful encounters with people deeply connected with nature, all over the world.
Miguel's known as a slab hunter, big wave and free-surf and a swell hunting extraordinaire. All that is great, but the traditional means of creating surfboards have been damaging to the planet for a generation. So Miguel asked the question – 'can eco-boards perform the same as normal boards?’
To find the answer, Miguel put his new eco-quiver under the magnifying glass, taking them out in some of the world's heaviest waves, like Nazare and Jaws, before dialling in the performance aspect at one of the globe's meanest pointbreaks.
